Oh sweet strawberry, Oh sweet strawberry! You’re so bright red and beautiful. Your sweet juice is like a gift from the heavens. Your yellow speckles are like pieces of sunshine! Oh, how I love you, sweet red strawberry!
Yes, today’s blog is about sweet delicious strawberries! Isn’t it all our favorite fruit? (Except for those with allergies!) It is one of mine that’s for sure! Over the past several years of our family’s garden, this has been a consistent resident. They are fairly easy to care for too! Let’s learn about them.
When it comes to how much sun that is required for strawberries, from my experience, you can be a little lenient. Although Strawberries require full sun we have planted them in an area with part sun. Do I think it affected how much the plant produced? I’m not sure. I have not change the location until this year and it’s still early in the season. However don’t be like me! Be sure to plant them in an area with lots of sun!
During the summer try to water at least 3 times a week, unless it rains of course. Above all be sure as to not drown them. Despite them being a juicy fruit they do not enjoy going swimming in water. This can cause root rot.
A single strawberry plant can produce from 30 to 60 strawberries. From my experience you will get bowls of strawberries to harvest. Be careful because you won't be the only one eating them, so harvest them as soon you see that they are red.
Strawberries grow very fast and will spread like mint, if you know you know. Because of this they will come back every year but eventually, if you don’t let them spread freely, they will weaken with their production of fruit.
For this years strawberry plants, I hope to have a lot more success! Thank you for reading!
